I drove. I stopped. I asked.
During 2020–21 I traveled across the US, hopping out of my van or pausing on a hike to ask strangers — at a distance — if I could take their portrait. As they were, where they were. We'd talk a bit, and they'd share a piece of their story. While so many people were drawn to the strange beauty of empty spaces, I still wanted people. So I criss-crossed the country finding them. These are some of those photos.
